Italy Inflation Rate Stable at 0.7% in December


In December of 2013, Italian annual inflation rate was unchanged at 0.7 percent, preliminary estimates showed. From November to December, prices rose a preliminary 0.2 percent.

Year-on-year, food prices rose the most (1.8 percent, up from 1.3 percent in November), followed by cost of education (up by 0.1 percentage point to 1.4 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (unchanged at 1.3 percent). 

Prices of housing, water, electricity and gas remained stable at 0.3 percent and transport cost rose 0.8 percent, the same rate recorded in November. In contrast, communication prices fell sharply by 9.7 percent.
