Italy Unemployment Rate Hits New Record High in November


In November of 2013, Italian jobless rate rose to 12.7 percent, the highest rate on record, after remaining stable at 12.5 percent in the previous two months.

The number of unemployed persons rose 1.8 percent over the previous month to 3.25 million persons. Compared with the same month last year, the number of unemployed persons increased 12.1 percent (+351 thousand).  

Youth unemployment rate edged up to 41.6 percent, from 41.2 percent in October.

The number of employed persons fell slightly by 0.2 percent over October to 22.29 million persons and declined 2 percent over a year earlier. The employment rate declined to 55.4 percent, slightly down from 55.5 percent in October. The inactivity rate remained unchanged at 36.4 percent.
