Mexico Inflation Rate At 5-Month Low


Mexican annual inflation rate eased slightly to 4.08 percent in December from 4.17 percent in November. It is the lowest rate in five months but still above the central bank's 4 percent tolerance ceiling.

Year-on-year, communication cost fell 6.77 percent while clothing and footwear prices rose only 2.27 percent. Housing, water, electricity and gas cost increased 2.98 percent, transport rose 4.98 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 6.64 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.49 percent, slowing from a 0.81 percent rise in November. 

Annual core inflation rate slowed to 3.24 percent from 3.34 percent in the previous month.
