Russia Inflation Rate at 1-Year Low

Consumer prices in Russia increased by 12.9 percent year-on-year in December of 2015, following a 15.0 percent growth in the previous month and below market expectations. It was the lowest reading since December of 2014.

Year-on-year, cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 14.8 percent (+17.7 percent in November); cost of housing and utilities rose by 9.9 percent (+10.6 percent in November) and prices of transportation went up by 9.8 percent (+12.0 percent in October). Additional upward pressure came from: clothing and footwear (+13.0 percent); recreation and culture (+14 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+13.4 percent); and furnishings and household equipment (+14.7 percent).

Meanwhile, annual core inflation rate went down to 13.7 percent in November from 15.9 percent in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, inflation went up to 0.8 percent, at the same pace as the previous month, boosted by higher prices of food (+1.4 percent), transportation (+0.3 percent), housing and utilities (+0.1 percent), clothing (+0.6 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+0.5 percent) and furnishings (+0.6 percent).
