Dutch Unemployment Rises in December

In December of 2013, the jobless rate in Netherlands rose to 8.5 percent, after decreasing in the previous month to 8.2 percent. The number of unemployed persons increased by 15 thousand to 688 thousand people.

In December of 2013, the number of unemployment benefits totaled 438 thousand, 19 thousand more than in November and 98 thousand more than in December last year.

In 2013, nearly 100 thousand people were unemployed, with the highest increase recorded among people over 55 years old. Among youth, unemployment rose by 9 thousand people. 

613 thousand new unemployment benefits were provided, and in 2013 a total of 516 thousand benefits were terminated, of which 245 thousand due to return to work and 187 thousand due to reaching the maximum benefit.
