Turkish Trade Gap Narrows 27.4% YoY in December


Trade deficit in Turkey decreased by 27.4 percent to USD6.183 billion in December of 2015, compared to a USD8.519 billion shortfall a year earlier, as imports fell more than exports.

In December, outbound shipments dropped by 11.1 percent year-on-year to USD11.802 billion while sales to the EU countries increased by 1.7 percent to USD5.428 billion. The main partner country for exports was Germany (USD1.150 billion), followed by UK (USD764 million), Italy (USD638 million) and USA (USD590 million).

Imports fell by 17.5 percent to USD17.984 billion. The top country for imports was China (USD2.15 billion), Germany (USD2.38 billion), Russia (USD1.686 billion) and USA (USD961 million).

In December 2015, exports coverage of imports was 65.6 percent, higher than 60.9 percent in December 2014.
