Spain Inflation Rate Eases to 0.5% in January


Consumer prices in Spain are expected to increase 0.5 percent year-on-year in January of 2018, slowing from a 1.1% rise in the previous month and below market expectations of 0.9 percent. It is the lowest inflation rate since September of 2017, mainly due to electricity prices.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to decrease 1.1 percent, after a flat reading in the December.

The EU-harmonised index is expected to rise 0.7 percent compared to a year earlier in January, following a 1.2 percent gain in the previous month and below market expectations of 0.8 percent. Compared to the prior month, the index is expected to decline 1.5 percent, after a flat reading in December.
