Year-on-year, cost of transport-related services went up by 0.5 percent, after falling by 1.7 percent in December; while prices of non-regulated energy goods dropped by 5.8 percent, easing from a 8.7 percent fall in the previous month and those of regulated energy products declined by 1.3 percent compared to a 2 percent decrease in December. On the contrary, prices of unprocessed food increased at a much slower 0.6 percent from 2.3 percent increase, holding back the increase in the overall index.
Meanwhile, core inflation rate (excluding energy and unprocessed food) went up to 0.8 percent from 0.6 percent in the previous month.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped by 0.2 percent, after showing no growth in December, mainly due to lower prices of energy goods (-1.7 percent), recreational, cultural and personal care (-0.5 percent) and unprocessed food (-0.5 percent) while prices of various services (+0.2 percent), of other goods (+0.2 percent) and food products (+0.1 percent) rose the most.
Harmonised consumer prices increased by 0.4 percent year-on year but declined sharply by 2.2 percent on a monthly basis.
