Swiss Unemployment Rate Highest in 11-Months

Swiss unadjusted jobless rate increased to 3.5 percent in January of 2015 from 3.4 percent in the previous month as the number of jobseekers and unemployed went up. It is the highest level since February 2014.

In January, there were 150,946 unemployed persons enrolled at the regional employment centers, about 3,577 more than in the previous month. Compared to the same month a year earlier, unemployment fell by 2,314 persons (-1.5 percent).

The number of jobseekers amounted to 206,138 in January of 2015, 2, 212 persons more than in December and less 2,639 persons from a year earlier (-1.3 percent).

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 years) increased by 350 (+1.8 percent) to 19,511 persons and fell by 1,022 persons (-5.0 percent) from a year earlier.
