Italian Economy Returns to Growth in Q4


Italian GDP advanced 0.1 percent on a quarter-on-quarter basis in the last three months of 2013. It was the first expansion since mid-2011, the preliminary estimates showed.

Growth was boosted by the agriculture and industry sectors, while services were unchanged. Third quarter figure has been revised to show flat growth.

Year-on-year, the economy contracted at a slower 0.8 percent  pace (-1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2013). 

For full 2013, the GDP adjusted for calendar effects shrank 1. 9 percent. 2013 had the same number of working days as 2012.

The fourth quarter had two working days less than the previous quarter and the same number of working days as the fourth quarter of 2012.
