Dutch Unemployment Rate Up to 4-Month High

In January of 2014, the Netherland’s jobless rate rose for the second straight month to 8.6 percent, up from 8.5 percent in the last month of 2013. In January last year, unemployment was recorded at 7.5 percent.

Unemployment rose in January by 10 thousand and amounted to 678 thousand people. 

The number of current unemployment benefits rose by 5.2 percent to 460 thousand, less than in January last year. 

In the first month of 2014, 79 thousand new unemployment benefits were paid and 56 thousand benefits were terminated. There were 27 thousand benefits terminated due to return to work.
