Consumer prices in Spain decreased 0.8 percent year-on-year in February of 2016, compared to 0.3 percent fall in the previous month, according to preliminary estimates. It was the sharpest drop since September of 2015, pushed down by fuels and food prices. On a monthly basis, prices went down by 0.3 percent.
Figures were well below market expectations of 0.5 percent fall. The decrease was mainly explained by the decline in the prices of fuels (gas and diesel oil) and food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The harmonized index declined 0.9 percent year-on-year and 0.4 percent on a monthly basis.
