Turkey Inflation Rate Edges Higher

In February of 2014, Turkish annual inflation rate accelerated for the third straight month to 7.89 percent from 7.75 percent in the previous month. On a monthly basis, prices decelerated to 0.43 percent, following a 1.98 percent rise a month earlier.

Transportation cost recorded the highest annual increase (12.68 percent), followed by prices of hotels, cafes and restaurants (11.72 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (10.05 percent), education (9.87 percent) and recreation and culture (7.60 percent).

The highest monthly increase was recorded for transport prices (2.29 percent). Prices rose for hotels, cafes and restaurants by 1.42 percent; furnishings and household equipment by 1.33 percent; miscellaneous goods and services by 1.14 percent and health by 0.76 percent. In contrast, prices of clothing and footwear decreased 5.06 percent.
