Russia February Inflation Rate Unchanged at Record Low

Russia's consumer prices rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in February 2018, the same pace as in the previous month while missing market expectations of a 2.3 percent gain. The inflation remained at the lowest level since the series began in 1991 and well below the central bank's target of 4 percent, despite a pick up in food inflation.

Within the goods component, prices of non-food products rose by 2.5 percent, softer than a 2.6 percent gain in the previous month; while food inflation picked up to 0.9 percent from 0.7 percent in January. Also, cost of services went up by 3.7 percent after a 3.9 percent increase in the precedent period.

Annual core inflation rate also stood at an all-time low of 1.9 percent in February, unchanged from the previous month.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.2 percent, following a 0.3 percent gain in January and also missing expectations of 0.3 percent. Prices rose slower for food (0.4 percent from 0.5 percent in January) and non-food products (0.1 percent from 0.3 percent) while services inflation was unchanged at 0.1 percent.
