The Turkish jobless rate fell to 10.4 percent in December 2017 from 12.7 percent in the same month of the previous year, as the number of unemployed declined by 581 thousand to 3.291 million.
The non-agricultural jobless rate went down to 12.3 percent from 14.9 percent a year earlier, while the youth unemployment rate dropped to 19.2 percent from 21.5 percent.
Employment increased by 1.619 million to 28.288 million in December 2017, as the non-agricultural sector added 1.365 million jobs and the farm sector added 255 thousand jobs. Employment went up in services (0.1 percentage points) and construction (0.4 percentage points), while it fell in industry (-0.2 percentage points) and agriculture (-0.1 percentage points). The overall employment rate rose to 46.9 percent from 45.1 percent in December 2016.
The labour force went up by 1.039 million to 31.579 million in December, bringing the participation rate to 52 4 percent from 51.6 percent a year ago, while those detached from it rose by 110 thousand to 28.716 million.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the unemployment rate edged down to 9.9 percent from 10.1 percent in the previous month.
