Russian Jobless Rate Falls to 5% in February


Russian unemployment rate fell to 5 percent in February 2018 from 5.6 percent in the same month of the previous year, beating market expectations of 5.2 percent.

The number of unemployed people declined by 423 thousand to 3.808 million from 4.231 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Compared to January, the number of unemployed decreased by 11 thousand from 3.918 million.

Real wages in Russia rose 9.7 percent year-on-year in February, easing from an 11.3 percent jump in the previous month and way above market expectations of 6 percent. Average nominal wages jumped 12.1 percent to RUB 39,800 while annual inflation rate stood at a record low of 2.2 percent. Meanwhile, real disposable personal income in Russia increased by 4.4 percent in February, after showing no growth in the previous month.
