Japan's Inflation Rate Remains Unchanged in February

The consumer price index for Japan in February 2011 was 99.3(2005=100), down 0.1% from the previous month, and the same level as previous year. Core inflation fell 0.3 percent on year in February.

Among the individual components, education costs were down 13.0 percent on year, while furniture was down 3.5 percent, housing was down 0.5 percent and recreation was down 0.4 percent. Moving higher were prices for fuel, up 2.1 percent on year, while communications equipment was up 0.7 percent and food was up 0.5 percent.

On month, clothing prices were down 1.3 percent, while furniture prices were down 0.3 percent and recreation prices were flat. Moving higher were prices for fuel prices, up 0.3 percent, while communications equipment and education costs each added 0.1 percent.

Overall consumer prices in Tokyo - considered a leading indicator for the nationwide trend - declined 0.3 percent on year in March.
