Spain Inflation Rate Lower Than Forecasts

Consumer prices in Spain are expected to fall 0.8 percent year-on-year in March of 2016, the same as in February, preliminary estimates showed. It is the third straight month of deflation and worse than market expectations of a 0.6 percent decline.

Compared with a year earlier, cost of diesel and gasoline rose at a slower pace and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages were relatively stable.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to rise 0.6 percent, rebounding from falls in the previous three months and the biggest rise since October of 2015.

The harmonized index fell 1 percent on the year but gained 2 percent from the previous month.
