The number of people claiming jobless benefits was 396,900 in March of 2014, 1,800 less than in the previous month, and down from 426,900 last year.
Long term claimants declined 4.6 percent from the same period of the previous year to 179,335 people, while short term claimants decreased 11.9 percent, registering 211,897 people.
There were 79,811 casual and part-time workers on the Live Register in March of 2014, which represented 20.4 percent of the total Live Register.
The number of persons aged under 25 and on the Live Register decreased by 7,672 (-11.5 percent) over a year earlier. The percentage of persons aged under 25 on the Live Register now stands at 15.0 percent for March of 2014, down from 15.7 percent in March of 2013 and 16.8 percent in March of 2012.
