Mexico Inflation Rate Edges Up in March


Consumer prices in Mexico rose 3.14 percent year-on-year in March, slightly up from a nine-year low 3 percent in February as transport cost increased at a faster pace.

Year-on-year, cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased 5.06 percent (5.15 percent in February) and transport prices advanced 3.71 percent (2.76 percent in February). 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.41 percent, following a 0.19 percent rise in February. Transport cost recorded the highest increase (1.31 percent), followed by recreation and culture (1.29 percent). Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages went up 0.26 percent.

The core index, which strips out some volatile food and energy prices rose 0.26 percent on the month, bringing the annual rate to 2.45 percent.
