Italian Inflation Rate Flat in April


Consumer prices in Italy are expected to remain unchanged in April of 2015 compared with a year earlier, following a 0.1 decrease in the previous month.

Year-on-year, upward pressure came from higher cost of: food and non alcoholic beverages (+1.0 percent); restaurants and hotels (+1.1 percent); health (+0.4 percent); clothing and footwear (+0.4 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+3.1 percent); and education (+1.8 percent). Prices of recreation and culture rose 0.1 percent, due to seasonal factors. 

In contrast, transport cost recorded the highest drop (-2.7 percent), followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-1.1 percent) and communication (-1.7 percent).

Core inflation rate (excluding energy and unprocessed food) was 0.4 percent, the same as in the previous month; excluding energy, the inflation was 0.6 percent. 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to increase 0.3 percent, up from 0.1 percent in March. While cost of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels fell 0.5 percent; prices of transports and restaurants and hotels rose 0.5 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. 

Harmonised consumer prices remained stable year-on-year and increased 0.5 percent month-on-month.
