Switzerland Inflation Rate Falls Further

Consumer prices in Switzerland dropped 1.1 percent year-on-year in April, following a 0.9 percent fall in the previous month, driven by lower transport and accommodation cost.

Year-on-year, transport prices recorded the highest decrease (-5.2 percent), followed by recreation and culture (-2 percent) and household equipment and routine maintenance (-1.4 percent). Additional downward pressures came from food and nonalcoholic beverages (-0.5 percent) and housing and utilities (-0.5 percent).

Clothing and footwear (0.4 percent) and education (1.2 percent) were the only upward pressures.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.2 percent in April, following a 0.3 percent rise in March, mainly due to lower cost of new cars. Prices for new and used cars, bikes and diesel shrank 0.5 percent.
