Italian GDP Growth Beats Expectations

The Italian economy expanded 0.3 percent in the first three months of 2015, after showing no growth or contracting in five previous quarters. It is the strongest expansion in four years.

Domestic demand was the main driver of expansion in the first quarter, while net exports contributed negatively to growth, preliminary figures showed. On the production side, agriculture and industry expanded while services remained stable.

Year-on-year, the GDP reported no growth, after contracting for thirteen consecutive quarters.
