Netherlands Unemployment Rate Unchanged in April


Dutch seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained unchanged at 8.7 percent in April of 2014. A year earlier, unemployment was recorded at 8.2 percent.

The number of unemployed people amounted to 687 thousand, up by three thousand from March’s figure and employment decreased. As a result, the labor force shrank, as young people withdrew from the labor market to study.

In April, the number of unemployment benefits amounted to 443 thousand, 11 thousand less than in March and 64 thousand more than in April 2013. Compared with March, the number of new unemployment benefits fell 10 percent.
