Italy Unemployment Rate Lowest Since 2012


Italy's seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 11.1 percent in April of 2017 compared to a downwardly revised 11.5 percent in March and lower than market expectations of 11.6 percent. It is the lowest jobless rate since September of 2012. The number of unemployed decreased by 106 thousand from the previous month and employed persons increased by 94 thousand. As a result, the employment rate rose to 57.9 percent from 57.7 percent in March.

There were 2.880 million unemployed people in April 2017, 106 thousand less than in the previous month. Employment increased significantly by 94 thousand to 22.998 million and those detached from the labour force went up by 24 thousand to 13.466 million.

Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, was steady at 34 percent, the lowest level since February 2012.

Italy's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, rose to 57.9 percent from 57.7 percent in March.
