The number of unemployed increased by 17 thousand from the previous month to 2.912 million in April 2018. Meantime, employment rose by 64 thousand to 23.200 million and those detached from the labour force decreased by 74 thousand to 13.148 million.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, edged up to 33.1 percent from an upwardly revised 32.5 percent in March.
Among genders, the jobless rate was lower for men (10.1 percent from 10.0 percent in March) than for women (12.5 percent from 12.6 percent).
The country's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, increased to 58.4 percent in April from 58.3 percent in March and hitting its highest level since October of 2008. The labour force participation rate went up to 66.0 percent from an upwardly revised 65.8 percent.
