German Inflation Rate Down to 4-Year Low

Annual consumer prices in Germany are expected to rise 0.9 percent in May, lower than 1.3 percent recorded in the previous month. Preliminary figures showed food cost slowed sharply while energy prices fell at a slower pace.

Food prices rose at a slower 0.5 percent from 1.8 percent in the previous month. Prices of services decelerated to 1.4 percent in May, following a 2.3 percent increase in April and energy cost fell at a slower 0.8 percent.

On a month-over-month basis, prices are expected to decline 0.1 percent.

The harmonized consumer price index for Germany is expected to increase by an annual 0.6 percent in May. Compared with April, it is expected to be down 0.3 percent.
