In April, 22.295 million persons were employed, down by 0.3 percent over the previous month. The employment rate fell 0.2 percent to 55.4 percent.
Unemployment reached 3.216 million, -0.4 percent with respect to the previous month and the number of inactive people grew 0.6 percent year-on-year.
Youth unemployment increased to 43.3 percent (42.9 percent in March).
First-quarter unemployment rate rose to 13.6 percent, the highest level since 1977.
