Russia Inflation Rate Stable at 7.3% in May

Consumer prices in Russia increased 7.3 percent year-on-year in May of 2016, unchanged from the previous two months, staying at the lowest level since April of 2014. Food and transport prices rose at a faster pace while clothing and footwear growth slowed down. On a monthly basis, prices went up by 0.4 percent.

Cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5.3 percent year-on-year in May (+4.9 percent in April) and prices of transport went up 6.4 percent (+6.1 percent). Meantime, housing and utilities cost rose at the same pace (+8.4 percent) and prices growth of clothing and footwear (+9.7 percent from +10.3 percent); recreation and culture (+12.7 percent from +13 percent); alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+10.1 percent from +10.3  percent); and furnishings and household equipment (+7.7 percent from +8.0 percent) slowed down slightly. 

Meanwhile, annual core inflation rate went down to 7.5 percent from 7.6 percent in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent, unchanged from the previous month, led by higher prices of food (+0.4 percent), transportation (+0.7 percent), housing and utilities (+0.2 percent), clothing (+0.5 percent) and furnishings (+0.4 percent).
