Netherlands’ jobless rate decreased to 8.6 percent in May of 2014, down from 8.7 percent in the previous month, as more people were at paid work.

The number of unemployed amounted to 673 thousand people in May of 2014, less 14 thousand from April, as more people got paid work, mainly those aged 25 to 45. This development follows a growing number of jobs and working hours early this year.

In May of 2014, unemployment benefits decreased for the fourth consecutive month to 436 thousand, eight thousand less than in April, mainly due to seasonal effects in agriculture, construction and hospitality. For almost all age groups except the over-55s, the number of unemployment benefits decreased.

The number of employed people increased by 21 thousand to 7.20 million.
