South Korea Inflation Rate Steady at 1% in June


In June of 2013, South Korean inflation rate decreased 0.1 percent from the preceding month and rose 1.0 percent from June of 2012, mainly due to a fall in prices of agricultural and fishery goods.

On a year-over-year basis, prices of Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded the highest increase (up by 3.8 percent). Cost of Clothing and footwear, Alcoholic beverages and tobacco and Restaurants and hotels rose 1.9 percent, 1.7 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.

The index for Transport recorded the biggest drop (down by 1.5 percent over a year earlier) and prices of Miscellaneous goods and services and Food and non-alcoholic beverages went down by 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. 

The index for Communication and Furnishings, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house remained unchanged in June.

From May to June, the index for Clothing and footwear, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels and Furnishings, household equipment & routine maintenance increased 0.3 percent, 0.1 percent and 0.5 percent respectively in June. Prices of Education, Restaurants and hotels and Miscellaneous goods and services went up 0.1 percent, 0.2 percent and 0.3 percent respectively in June.

The index for Food and non-alcoholic beverages and Recreation and culture decreased 1.2 percent and 0.6 percent respectively in June.

The index for Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, Health, Transport, and Communication remained unchanged in June.
