Russia Inflation Rate Slows to 6-Month Low of 4.7% in June


The annual inflation rate in Russia decreased to 4.7 percent in June of 2019 from 5.1 percent in the previous month and below market expectations of 4.8 percent. It was the lowest inflation rate since December, as cost slowed for food, non-food products and services.

Within the goods component, non-food products prices advanced 3.5 percent, easing from a 3.8 percent rise in the previous month and food cost jumped 5.5 percent, slowing from a 6.4 percent gain in May. In addition, services inflation decreased to 4.9 percent from 5.1 percent in the prior month. 

Annual core inflation rate edged down to 4.6 percent in June from 4.7 percent in the previous month. 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices showed no growth, after a 0.3 percent increase in the previous month and compared with market consensus of a 0.1 percent gain. Inflation was steady for non-food products (0.2 percent, the same as in May) and cost of food fell (-0.5 percent from 0.4 percent) while prices went up faster for services (0.6 percent from 0.4 percent).
