Compared with the previous month, the number of unemployed dropped by 26.9 thousand, or 3.1 percent, to 833.86 thousand while the number of employed persons rose by 26.9 thousand, or 0.7 percent, to 3.892 million.
A year ago, the jobless rate was recorded at 19.8 percent. The number of unemployed persons declined by 107.3 thousand, or 11.4 percent while employment increased by 75 thousand, or 2 percent.
Unemployment decreased for almost all age groups and continued to hit more young people aged 15-24 years (30.4 percent from 40.3 percent) and the 25-34 age group (24.2 percent from 25 percent. Lower rates were mainly observed in the 35-44 age group (16.3 percent from 18.2 percent); the 45-54 age group (14.2 percent from 16.2 percent); the 55-64 age group (13.8 percent from 15.8 percent) and the 65-74 age group (12.4 percent from 9.7 percent).
By genders, the jobless rate was lower for men (14.5 percent from 16.1 percent in April 2018) than for women (21.7 percent from 24.4 percent).
Across the country's regions, the lowest unemployment rates were registered in Crete (11.8 percent), Aegean Islands (14.6 percent) and Attica (17.9 percent). On the other hand, Epirus-Western Macedonia recorded the highest rate (20.5 percent).
