Spain Inflation Rate Confirmed at 0.1%


Consumer prices in Spain increased for the first time in 12 months by an annual 0.1 percent in June, matching preliminary estimates and following a 0.2 percent drop in May.

Prices of food and nonalcoholic beverages went up 1.8 percent, boosted by fruit, potatoes, olive oil and fish. Prices of housing and utilities decreased at a slower 0.9 percent as electricity cost increased while gas cost was stable. In contrast, transport prices fell at a faster 2.8 percent driven by fuels and lubricants.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, in line with earlier estimates but slowing from a 0.5 percent increase in May. Cost of housing and utilities accounted the most for the rise (up 1 percent), followed by food and nonalcoholic beverages (up 0.5 percent), recreation and culture (up 0.7 percent) and hotels, cafes and restaurants (up 0.4 percent). 

The harmonised index was flat on the year but  rose 0.2 percent from the previous month, matching preliminary estimates.
