In June, the number of unemployed persons increased to 1.5 million, from 1.4 million recorded in May, while the number of employed persons (23 million) remained unchanged from May and June of 2012.
Although in June the number of workers with a formal contract in the private sector (11.5 million) showed no changes from May, it increased 3.2 percent year-on-year, adding 359000 new jobs.
In June, employment in the Industry sector shrank by 3.3 percent month-over-month. Year-on-year, employment rose in Education, Health and Public Administration (+ 6 percent), but contracted by 5.2 percent in Domestic Services.
In June, average real wages (R$ 1,869.20) slightly declined 0.2 percent month-over-month, while increased 0.8 percent from June of 2012. The purchasing power of employed persons grew 1.5 percent over June last year.
