Spain Jobless Rate Falls to Near 11-Year Low
The unemployment rate in Spain fell 13.92 percent in the third quarter of 2019 from 14.02 percent in the previous three-month period but above market forecast of 13.85 percent. It was the lowest jobless rate since the last quarter of 2008. Among regions, the lowest rates were recorded in Illes Balears (8.18 percent), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (8.19 percent), Cantabria (8.73 percent) and La Rioja (8.99 percent) while the highest in Melilla (28.99 percent), Ceuta (28.76 percent) and Andalucía (21.83 percent). In Catalonia, jobless rate was 10.87 percent and in Madrid 10.26 percent.

The unemployment rate in Spain increased to 16.55 percent in the last three months of 2017 from an upwardly revised 16.39 percent in the previous period which was the lowest since 2008. Figures came above market expectations of 16.15 percent. It is a new low since the last three months of 2008 when the jobless rate was 13.79 percent.
