Spain Deflation Eases Further to 6-Month Low

Consumer prices in Spain are expected to fall 0.6 percent year-on-year in July of 2016, following a 0.8 percent drop in June, preliminary estimates showed. It is the twelfth consecutive month of no growth in consumer prices although July's decrease was the lowest in six months.

The change from July to June is due to rising prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined 0.7 percent, the first fall in five months.

The harmonized index dropped 0.6 percent year-on-year, compared to a 0.9 percent fall in June and market expectations of a 0.8 percent decline. The monthly index went down 1.3 percent after rising 0.4 percent in the previous month.
