Germany Inflation Rate at 5-Month Low

Consumer prices in Germany are expected to increase 0.2 percent year-on-year in July, below market expectations and slowing from a 0.3 percent rise in the previous month. It is the lowest figure since February as energy deflation deepens and food prices slowed.

According to preliminary estimates, energy prices are likely to fall 6.2 percent, compared to a 5.9 percent drop in June. Food cost is expected to rise at a slower 0.4 percent, following a 1 percent increase in June. In contrast, prices of services are expected to accelerate (up 1.1 percent from 0.9 percent in June). 

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are estimated to increase 0.2 percent, rebounding from a 0.1 percent drop in June.

The harmonised consumer price index is expected to be up 0.1 percent in July over a year earlier. Compared with June 2015, it is expected to be up by 0.3 percent.
