On the year-over-year basis, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the highest increase (8.44 percent, from 12.9 percent in the previous month). Cost of restaurants and hotels rose 6.66 percent, from 14.6 percent in June; alcoholic beverages and tobacco went up 5.63; transport cost increased 4.90 percent and prices of clothing and footwear increased 4.87 percent.
Between June and July, inflation rate accelerated to 0.2 percent, from 0.05 percent in May. Cost of food and non-alcoholic drinks decreased by 0.10 percent, as a result of aggregate falls that outweighed rises in the average prices of various food items. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ index, rose by 0.13 percent, mainly due to increases in house rent and charcoal. Transport index increased by 0.98 percent, due to increases on the pump prices of petrol and diesel. Health cost index rose by 0.95 percent due to increase in doctor’s charges and some medicine.
