Euro Area Inflation Rate Highest since 2012



The inflation rate in the Euro Area is expected to edge up to 2.1 percent in July of 2018 from 2 percent in June, beating market expectations of 2 percent. It is the highest inflation rate since December of 2012, mainly boosted by oil prices, flash estimates showed.

Energy is expected to show the highest annual rate in July (9.4 percent compared to 8 percent in June), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (2.5 percent compared to 2.7 percent), services (1.4 percent compared to 1.3 percent) and non-energy industrial goods (0.5 percent compared to 0.4 percent).

Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, inflation went up to 1.1 percent from 0.9 percent. Excluding ebergy only, inflation is seen increasing to 1.4 percent from 1.3 percent.
