Russia Inflation Rate Decelerates Slightly in July


Russian annual consumer inflation declined to 7.5 percent in July of 2014 from 7.8 percent in the previous month, driven mostly by lower cost of electricity, gas and other fuels.

Prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels decreased to 6.0 percent in July, from 11.7 percent in June after the government capped regulated utility fees.

Inflationary pressures came from food and non-alcoholic beverages (+9.5 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+15.2 percent), clothing and footwear (+4.7 percent), furnishings and household equipment (+4.9 percent), health (+8.9 percent), transportation (+5.3 percent), recreation and culture (+7.5 percent), education (+8.7 percent), hotels, restaurants and cafes (+7.9 percent).

Annual core inflation rate accelerated to 7.8 percent in July from 7.5 percent in June.

On a monthly basis, inflation slowed to 0.5 percent down from 0.6 percent in the previous month, mostly due to decline of  cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.2 percent).
