Italian Economy Slides Into Recession


Italian GDP unexpectedly shrank 0.2 percent in the second quarter of 2014, following a 0.1 percent contraction in the previous three months, according to the preliminary estimate.

ISTAT gave no numerical breakdown of GDP components but said that activity in industry, services and agriculture decreased.

Year-on-year, the economy shrank 0.3 percent, following a 0.5 contraction from January to March and marking the eleventh consecutive quarter of decline.
