Italy GDP Contracts 0.2% in Q2


The Italian economy shrank 0.2 percent on quarter in the April to June period, matching preliminary estimates. Final figures showed the economy contracted for the second consecutive quarter, hurt by a drop in investment.

Gross fixed capital formation decreased by a seasonally adjusted 0.9 percent, dragged down by a 1.5 percent fall in machinery and equipment and a 0.9 percent drop in construction investment. Domestic consumption showed no growth in the second quarter of 2014, while exports grew a meager 0.1 percent and imports advanced 1 percent. 

Year-on-year, the economy contracted 0.2 percent, 0.1 percent less than initially estimated.
