Spain Deflation Slows to 0.1% in August


Consumer prices in Spain are expected to decline 0.1 percent year-on-year in August of 2016, following a 0.6 percent drop in August, preliminary estimates showed. It is the thirteenth consecutive month of no growth in consumer prices although August's decrease was the lowest in eight months.

Main upward pressure came from rising electricity prices while fuel cost decreased at a slower pace.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent.

The harmonized index dropped 0.3 percent year-on-year, compared to a 0.7 percent fall in July and in line with market expectations. The monthly index was flat after falling 1.3 percent in the previous month.
