The number of unemployed rose by 28 thousand, or 1.1 percent from the previous month to 2.566 million in July and those detached from the labour force decreased by 28 thousand, or 0.2 percent to 13.140 million, while employed fell by 18 thousand, or 0.1 percent to 23.404 million.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers between 15 and 24 years old, went up to 28.9 percent from 28.1 percent in June.
The country's overall employment rate, one of the lowest in the Euro Area, edged down to 59.1 percent in July from 59.2 percent in the preceding month. The labour force participation rate rose to 65.8 percent, the highest since June 2018, from 65.7 percent in the previous month.
