Philippines Unemployment Rate At 7.3% in July

Philippines jobless rate dropped to 7.3 percent in July from 7.5 percent reported in April. Over a year ago, the number of unemployed people increased 200 thousand to 3 million.

In In July of 2013, the employment rate is estimated at 92.7 percent, slightly down from 93.0 percent recorded a year ago. Among the regions, the National Capital Region had the lowest employment rate at 89.1 percent. The labor force participation rate of 63.9 percent remains stable from 64 percent in the same period last year. 

The number of employed people was approximately 38.175 million.  53.4 percent of them were working in the services sector; 30.9 percent in agriculture and workers in the industry sector account for 15.6 percent of total employed.  

Among the major occupation groups, laborers and unskilled workers remained the largest group making up 32.2 percent of total employed people. 64.7 percent were full-time workers, while 34.5 percent were part-time workers. 

Among unemployed people, 61.3 percent were males and 48.9 percent belonged to the age group 15 to 24 years; 21.7 percent were college graduates, 13.6 percent were college undergraduates, and 32.8 percent were high school graduates.
