The most notable changes in the year were increases in education (+4.5 percent), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+3.9 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (+2.9 percent) and restaurants and hotels (+2.8 percent). There were decreases in communications (-4.6 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.6 percent), clothing and footwear (-2.0 percent) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-1.9 percent).
Consumer Prices in August, as measured by the CPI, increased by 0.2 percent in the month. This compares to an increase of 0.1 percent recorded in August of last year. The most significant monthly price changes were increases in clothing and footwear (+6.0 percent), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (+1.4 percent) and restaurants and hotels (+0.5 percent). There were decreases in transport (-0.6 percent), recreation and culture (-0.5 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-0.5 percent).
Prices on average, as measured by the EU Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), increased by 0.6 percent compared with August 2013.
