The number of unemployed persons in six of Brazil’s major metropolitan areas increased to 1.857 million from 1.844 million in July. Meanwhile, employment fell by 31,000 to 22.724 million. Out of those who have a job, 11.6 percent is being paid the minimum wage (11.7 percent in July) while 1.8 percent said could work more hours (2.1 percent in July).
The economically active population fell to 24.581 million from 24.600 million in the previous month. Yet, there were 19.31 million people detached from the labour force in August, 32,000 more than in July.
