Compared with the March-May period, the number of unemployed persons increased 5.1 percent to 12.024 million and employment decreased 0.8 percent to 90.137 million. Employment fell in construction (-3.3 percent); domestic services (-2.8 percent); industry (-1.9 percent); information, communication, financial services and real estate (-1.2 percent); agriculture (-1.1 percent); transport (-1 percent) and trade and repair of motor vehicles (-0.9 percent).
Economically active population edged up 0.2 percent to 166.441 million and the number of people detached from the labour force also increased 0.7 percent to 64.28 million. The labour force participation rate fell to 61.4 percent from 61.6 percent.
Real average earnings were estimated at R$ 2,011, slightly up from R$ 2,015 in the three months to May.
