The number of unemployed people fell by 0.7 percent to 1.33 million in August from 1.34 million in July, while employment was unchanged at 42.02 million.
Compared with August 2018, unemployment fell by 8.9 percent from 1.46 million and the number of employed rose by 0.6 percent from 41.79 million.
Youth unemployment rate, measuring job-seekers under 25 years old, was stable at 5.7 percent in August.
Separate data from the Labour Office showed that the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed dropped by 10 thousand from a month earlier to 2.276 million in September, below market expectations of a 5 thousand gain and after increasing 2 thousand in the previous month. The jobless rate was unchanged at 5 percent, remaining close to the lowest since German reunification in 1990.
